HSSC RNSA 2024 Spring Series Race 3 Results

A sigh of relief from organiser and all competitors, at last the weather moderated sufficiently to get the Spring Series underway. The cold north westerly although stronger than forecast was at least okay for racing to go ahead.
Jetpack the SOOD conscious of the sea building off Gilkicker point where the small fleet assembled set a short course of Stokes Bay East (always the first mark) Kemps Quay, Stokes Bay Central and home with the expectation of a shift further north to give a beat to Stokes Bay before setting kites for a reach home.
Off the start line it was Sunshine just ahead of Jetpack. Jambo and Cutlass with Spirit of Kudu and the slower NHC cruisers just behind. Sunshine edged further ahead on the reach to Kemps Quay but all arrived within a few boat lengths at the mark. All tacked immediately as it was apparent that the windward mark could be fetched in one long port tack which proved to be the case. Jetpack charged up this leg and eased onto the reach home only a couple of boat lengths behind Sunshine as each went for a kite hoist. Ironically both hoists took ages as the spinnaker pack from the last race of the autumn had not been properly checked. Eventually Jetpack hoisted with a massive twist and Sunshines foredecky struggled to find any corners from within the depths of the sailbag. Not so Jambo who having raced in the Spring Spithead series executed a perfect hoist and rapidly closed down the two leaders. Sunshine took the gun but when handicaps were applied Jambo took the race by a few seconds with Sunshine and Jambo filling the other podium places. In NHC Spirit of Kudu who had sailed a steady race took the chocolates.
Hornet provided some very welcome hot food on completion of racing.
