Ladies & Gentlemen,

Today at 1:00 PM we will be gathering in the bar to wish Stewart Peters all the very best on his retirement.

After more than 36 years of dedicated service to HSSC, this will be a memorable day. Stewart leaves behind a lasting impression on both the club and its members.

We hope you can join us to celebrate this occasion. A buffet will be provided, and everyone is welcome to attend.

Later this evening, as it is the last Friday of the month, we will also be holding our Club Night. With live music, fish & chips served in a box, and a drink included, it promises to be a great opportunity to meet fellow members and enjoy the evening together.

Kind regards,

Brian

HSSC Notice of Extraordinary General Meeting Election of Club Commodore 19 Sept 2025

The Club will hold an Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM) on Friday 19 September, at 6.30pm in the Clubhouse. The purpose of the EGM is to allow Full Members to elect Mike Shrives as Commodore, in succession to Richard Stokes, handing over at the Clubs Trafalgar Night Dinner on 24 October. Mikes Biography is here: Mike Shrives - Biography

The formal EGM Calling Notice & Agenda is here: Notice of 2025 Extraordinary General Meeting

Voting is open to all Full Members of the Club, including berth-holders, veteran and honorary life members. The Committee recognises that not all Full Members will either want, or be able, to attend the EGM and there is therefore an opportunity to vote by proxy, electronically, at this link: https://forms.office.com/e/GRyi5CGtjV .  It should take no more than a couple of minutes to complete. Alternatively a paper proxy form can be completed and returned by hand, post or email to the Club Office. Proxy votes must be submitted by 4.30pm on Tuesday 16 September.

The bar and restaurant will be open after the EGM for normal service.

JSASTC Security

Please be advised that due to heightened security a Visitor Notification Form is required for all guests.  Once a guest is included on the form, they must be in possession of either a driving licence or passport.  I support our colleagues in maintaining security across the site and request that this process is followed. If you do experience any issues whatsoever then please contact me directly.

Please download the Visitor Notification Form below:

All Double Berth-holders are reminded that, if they are the outboard boat, shore lines are to be fitted.

Haslar Bridge Closure - Changed Dates 08 Sep 2025 - 26 Sep 2025

Hampshire County Council has re-scheduled the dates for a road closure of Haslar Bridge to 08 Sep 2025 to 26 Sep 2025.

Please plan accordingly, as this will cause some inconvenience accessing the Club during this period.

Foot passengers unaffected.

Winter Lift and Layup Schedule

We are accepting Lift and Layup requests for the winter season. While there is plenty of time to submit your forms, if you already have a specific date in mind, please send your form to the office so we can begin populating the schedule.

Forms are available on the Members Portal of our website, or you can pick one up from outside the Club office.

The Gwennili Sailing Trust

The trust is short of 2 x skippers for its 8 boat flotilla that sails from 22-26 Sep in the Solent (from Hamble Point).   The charity supports the services' community (recovery centres, veterans, disabled).  It's a great crowd and a really rewarding experience, and we'd be grateful if Hornet members (and any of their friends) would be interested in taking up a skipper position with them for the week.  The qualification required is Yachtmaster Offshore with Commercial Endorsement.

Points of contact for expressions of interest or to discuss the opportunity are:

Tonight - Friday 28 Aug 2025 Club Night (otbe)

Next Friday is our monthly club night! Join us for some music and fish & chips, with a pint of Seafarers or glass of house wine, for £10.95.
