HSSC update Friday 29th June 2018

From the Club Sec.

Dear Members,

The Weekend Fri and Sat Evening - Due to functions there will be no restaurant service tonight or tomorrow evening - bar service is available as normal.

Family Children's Fun Day Sunday 24th June - A huge thank you to Lyndsey, the Marina and Clubhouse staff and to all those families who came along to support the event. Also a big thank you to those who were able to loan their tenders for the racing. It was a great success and lots of fun for the children (and adults!). BZ to all!

RNSA Cruising Group BBQ Sat 14 Jul 18 - This event will take place at Island Harbour (Newport) and is being organised by Graham and Jo Chillcott (Barti Du). Take your own food and BBQ is available on site, Please contact Graham and Jo at gonesailing57@hotmail.com.

PROJECT VERNON - THE PICKLE CHALLENGE - On Monday 2nd July, Geoff Goodwin will embark on a two-handed sail around England and the southern part of Scotland via the Caledonia Canal in the Dawn 39 class yacht, PICKLE. The aim, apart from getting back safely, is to increase awareness of, and attract sponsorship for, the charity, Project VERNON.

Royal Navy Divers and Mine Warfare specialists carry out the dangerous work of bomb and mine disposal. They have done this on almost every day of every year since before D-Day; underwater and ashore, in war and peace, in home waters and around the World: Suez, Falklands, Red Sea; The Gulf, Iraq, Afghanistan (landlocked!) and Libya. And recently, the disposal of a WWII bomb from alongside the runway of London's City airport.
There is no monument or statue to commemorate this work. The purpose of Project Vernon is to fix this by raising a statue in Gunwharf Quays, Portsmouth, the site of the old HMS VERNON, where these navy personnel were trained for many years.

Please give Geoff your support by sharing this appeal and by donating at: https://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/fundraiser-display/showROFundraiserPage?pageId=943699 or contact Geoff at geoff778@btinternet.com or 07887780595.
